Project Description

The producers of Air5 acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Lands on which this work was develop on and pay respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

Stuck in lock down? Bored with your immediate 5 km? But do you really know your local area as well as you think you do? COVID-19 has changed the way we interact but it doesn't have to take away the fun and excitement of discovering something new! Air5 is an app that lets you explore hidden gems within your immediate 5km radius. Simply type in your home address and it will randomly assign the top 5 Air5 gems for you to explore. After viewing a site, if you like what you see, you can give it a thumbs up and continue exploring. If you don’t like it - give it a thumbs down. You then have the option of adding your own location recommendation within your 5km or moving on to the next site. Air5 is the perfect way to add an element of surprise as you explore your local bubble with those within your home bubble.

Data Story

Air5 collates data from government infrastructure datasets to identify and randomly assign the top 5 Air5 recommendations of free and accessible hidden gems within a 5km radius of users’ home address. By allowing users to rate the sites with a thumbs up or down it also creates useful data for governments interested to see which local sites are popular and which aren't. This then allows governments to identify, analyse and forward plan required infrastructure improvements within local areas. This user voting system also feeds back into the top 5 Air5 recommendations – increasing or decreasing rankings for exploration.

Air5 allows us to high five our local hot spots – socially distanced of course.
