EduVision is an open dataset that allows government, industry and students to explore potential future gaps in industry based on the growth predictions and current student subject enrolments. By aligning these subjects to industries that students are likely to progress into we can identify shortages in the future workforce.
If there was more time this would have also been expanded into an OpenData API, aswell as an online portal. Allowing government and industry to use this data to highlight needs for investment across Australia and better plan for the future.
While looking through the data sets I discovered that there was a predicted growth in different industries across Australia. This growth also varied based on the region in Australia and was quite detailed. I then noticed that there is a lot of data around education participation rates and high school subjects. While investigating this information I had an idea. What if we could use this participation data, combined with the industry growth data to predict future gaps in industries.
Identifying the gaps in industries and having this information available for the public would provide benefits to both Government, Industry, and students (both higher education, vocational, and school).
Both government and industry would be able to use this information to plan for the future, determining the investment required to close these industry employment gaps and prepare Australia for the evolving global economic landscape.
It would also allow students to see future employment prospects and find careers that are predicted to grow, increasing the chance of employment for when they finish their study.
In the future this data could also be combined with immigration rates, and vocational and higher education participation rates to further improve these predictions.
