A Fine Drop
When natural disasters happen such as fires or floods, the quicker the people affected know of it, the better they can manage the effects. A notification just 30 minutes sooner can mean the difference between being able to safely evacuate a soon-to-be flooded road or being stuck for days.
EvaQ is a user-friendly app designed to ensure all those who use it arrive at their destinations safely and efficiently during natural disasters. During the event of a major natural disaster, EvaQ will assist users in reaching loved ones, evacuation points and/or any other place of interest. EvaQ achieves this by making use of public data portals and real-time data updates from pre-existing water/fire monitoring devices across Australia to provide users with safe routes around high-risk areas.
* The ability to input addresses of interest, like Home and Work to receive notifications if there are fire or flood events happening within a set radius.
* A ‘delivery mode’ to assist freight delivery drivers in reaching their destination and ensuring the delivery of important goods is not affected by natural disasters.
* Real-time direction updates, based on events happening near them.
ArcGIS datasets from MBRC were used at varying probability levels (5%, 1%, 0.1% AEP) to understand likely flood locations connected with the Moreton Bay region. A topology Flood Hazard Overlay was also used to assist the analysis of which areas could flood, which, along with the AEP datasets, aids the probability of flood accuracy. The ArcGIS dataset for the Bushfire Hazard Overlay was used in a similar way to the flood overlay, with the addition of the Moreton Bay Regional Council Planned Burns locations. These datasets will integrate with the Weather Impacted Road Closures data which ensures efficient personal and freight movement during weather events and will predict which roads will be blocked or damaged. The National data hub freight datasets were also used to ensure that in the event that there is no safe path through to a certain destination, drivers can be directed to a safe Heavy Vehicle Rest Area.
