Fires - a new way
The number, severity and area burnt by bushfires is increasing. The resources available to fire authorities to manage this problem are not increasing at a commensurate rate. As a result, bushfires are exceeding the resource capacities of authorities which is having an increasing impact on the community. A ‘new way’ is required to reduce this community impact.
Currently, the comparatively small quantity of resources within government authorities, are valiantly struggling to protect a comparatively much larger community from fire.
This project enables the comparatively small volume of authority resources and the much larger volume of community resources to work together, increasing the volume of resources that can be brought to bear against the growing fire problem before, during and after fires. This is achieved via a platform that provides low friction pathways for the real-time sharing and reuse of relevant data between authorities and the community, in both directions, and within the community.
This platform provides a real-time single source of truth for authority - community, community - authority and community - community bushfire collaboration.
A QLD and ACT example are provided of how the platform can be used to share and reuse open data mashups and open data fused with other data to empower the community with the information they need to increase their level of resilience.
