Project Description

Nelam.earth is climate data platform for corporate reporting integrating to ERP in large companies while aiding Australian SMEs in value chain remain competitive during green transition.

Challenges Entered

1.Infosys International: Measuring Emissions – Where should we start?

Climate change is forcing governments and regulators to enforce stringent norms for businesses to reduce emissions and address environmental risks. There is no standard framework for reporting ESG and climate related risks, leading to non-uniform data. How can this issue be addressed to help organisations better report on their emissions?

Australia: Best Creative Use of Data in Response to ESG

How can you showcase data in a creative manner to respond to ESG challenges? How can we present and visualise data to stimulate conversation and promote change?

Focusing Questions: How might we..?

How can we standardize data collection and reporting for tracking, monitoring, and reporting emissions across different jurisdictions and industries?

How can we address the challenges of data governance and better use of data to improve reporting on Environment issues with inconsistent climate data?

How can we integrate ESG data into financial risk calculations to better understand the impact of climate change on businesses?

How can we creatively visualize and present data related to climate change, renewable energy, and sustainable resource management to stimulate conversation and promote change?

How can Nelam.earth address the problems?

  • Environmental reporting is unstructured
  • Complex & inaccurate data, taxonomy
  • Large companies at risk of being accused of greenwashing!
  • SME at risk of losing continual business
  • Climate impact lacks awareness!

Our Solution :

Climate data management and reporting platform for Large corporates and Government agencies with ERP integration.
We help simplify the environmental certification across the supplier value chain for reliable reporting and enable profitable green transistion.

Data Story

For this project we used the data provided by Infosys on world data as well as Australian clean energy and climate change data from the government platforms.
Data quality check:
The schema changed over the years, data type was inconsistent like field names and measure of units over a period of time for carbon emission data. Missing data
Data pipeline:- Source NGER website - Excel CSV - GCP BigQuery
** Data Transformation-Curation: Using DBT
**Reporting
: Tableau
Link to Data Sources

Analysis:
We accessed the corporate emissions, state level emissions, Energy production over a period of 10 years including fixing data inconsistencies and tagging to create categories of renewable energy sources and accessed the impact of tree loss and CO2 per captia trends.

We also reviewed the IFRS S1 and S2 standards and Infosys Climate disclosure consultation paper for non-financial reporting requirements.
