Project Description

Swarm is an application built to help identify and avoid areas of high community transmission. Swarm lets you know where the crowds are gathering so that you can more effectively social distance. The app is easy to use and easy to understand.
As well as helping to stamp out Covid-19 from our community, Swarm can also be used to assist our emergency services in locating those trapped after a disaster, or finding those who have gotten lost.
Swarm is entirely confidential and anonymous. Made using open source data, the app may be turned off at any time to protect its user's privacy.

Data Story

We started this wanting to provide a way to see clusters of people to combat the spread of covid. In order to better flesh this data, we also wanted current covid data to see the areas where people with covid resided, along with the amount of cases. This gives people a better understanding of the areas with the most cases so they can avoid them and further reduce the spread. This way we utilised government statistics for active covid cases by their DHB, to locate on our map the areas with the most active cases.
