Project Description
We are a team of 6 and we are making an app that will show the user where services they may need are within a 20-minute radius of their mode of travel (the 20-minute ring), such as walking, E-bike, E-scooter, car or bus routes.
We are trying to find ways to make neighbourhoods liveable and inclusive for people of all backgrounds and income levels. Sometimes, making a neighbourhood desirable in this way can make a city too expensive. The use of our app and the 20-minute ring means that you can overlay it on any location and get a sense of what facilities are available where ever you live.
Data Story
We are using our databases that we have found to help our app locate buildings/services within a 20-minute walk, and also the databases help show danger spots so that you can find a quicker route before it is too late and you have spent too much time walking in the same direction just to a dead end.
The 20-minute ring can be overlayed on a map and then capture what is accessible within the area. For young people we are showing schools, TAFE, and universities. We are also including the use of electric vehicle charging and other options for affordable transport options such as e-bikes or e-scooters and public transport. Another focus is data that shows green spaces and facilitates access to sports and healthy living.
This data helps our users to plan how they can live a better life aligned with the values of the 20-minute neighbourhood plan, with a big focus on keeping costs low and thinking about access and inclusivity.
