Project Description

What is Truely

Truely is a Chrome extension that makes accessing verified government information simple, fast, and reliable. By allowing users to highlight any claim or statistic online, Truely instantly fact-checks it against live data from official .gov.au sources, including Centrelink, ATO, and Medicare. It also provides real-time answers to user questions, helping Australians make confident, informed decisions without searching across multiple websites.

Why we need Truely

Australians often struggle with misinformation and conflicting advice online when searching for reliable details about finance, health, education, and government services. Official information from sources like Centrelink, ATO, and Medicare is often scattered, complex, and difficult to access, making it challenging to find accurate and up-to-date answers. Truely solves this by providing a Chrome extension that lets users highlight any claim, instantly fact-check it against verified .gov.au data, and receive real-time, trustworthy information.

How Truely works

What Truely Shows you

With Truely, any highlighted text on social media can be instantly analysed and fact-checked against verified government data.

What's behind Truely

  • Government-Controlled Knowledge Base – Framework allows agencies to curate and validate trusted data sources, ensuring fact-checking relies only on verified, authoritative information
  • RAG Architecture with Controlled Context – Combines vector database with AI models but constrains responses to validated document chunks, eliminating hallucination
  • Universal Browser Access – Chrome extension enables instant fact-checking on any website through simple text selection
  • Extensible Testing Pipeline – Built-in framework supports integration tests and accuracy validation for continuous reliability improvement under government oversight

Future Work

  • Conversational Government Data Access: Extend beyond fact-checking to support natural language queries against any government dataset, creating an intelligent government data assistant.
  • AI Agent Testing Framework: Implement autonomous agents that iteratively test and validate accuracy, continuously improving reliability through automated quality assurance.
  • Automated Data Pipeline: Build seamless automation for government agencies to inject new official data directly into the vectorized database, keeping information current.

Data Story

For this project, we ensured that all information came from official and trustworthy sources. Data was exclusively retrieved from Australian government websites with the domain “.gov.au”, guaranteeing accuracy and reliability.
The datasets were primarily accessed in PDF format, downloaded directly from agencies such as the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and the Department of Home Affairs (formerly Border Protection). These documents provided authoritative details on policies, eligibility requirements, and regulations.
By grounding Truely in official government data, we can confidently deliver fact-checking results that are current, consistent, and credible.
