Keep The Kool Time (KTKT)
INTRODUCTION
There are four members making up KTKT who are Kylie, Thanh, Karthik and Tin. The project the group produces for the GovHack2019 competition.
PROBLEM
The problem the team wishes to tackle is water resource management in Australia. A central theme connecting them, with data across several states which is expressed by or related to the following challenges:
Maintaining consistent fresh water supply is crucial to cope with the burden exerted by growing human population. Furthermore, even though 2/3 of the Earth surface is water and 95% of which is seawater, unsuitable for most human daily consumption. Climate change in recent years has also altered water life cycle across the world, causing frequent abnormal natural disasters linked to water, depleting water reserves and flooding habitats.
Therefore, to have a sustainable water resources for humanity, there is a strong need to not only manage water resources more effectively but also innovate current processes. If we could tap into seawater for fresh water supply for instance, more water would be available for human consumption and activities. On the other hand, water waste management is vital to maintain the continuity of water cycle while contributing to a cleaner environment for living. For lasting and meaningful success, intensive and extensive support from the wider community, not just the government, is needed. The whole population should have access to sufficient and correct information on this topic before being able to contribute properly to this endeavor. Better customer experience with government services would invite collaboration with water management initiatives across Australia.
VISION
Using open-source data, KTKT aims to provide an educational tool in the form of web interface for everyone, including people with disabilities, to understand more about our relationship with water then manage the resources effectively with innovation and audience involvement.
Before finalising our topic of focus, water resource management, we consolidated all the challenges, followed by the division into different categories by utilising mind map technique. Those with the relevance to at least 5 challenges were selected and went further through a process of elimination. Gradual enlargement of the scope helped us to single out the central theme with the most reach, which is water resource management. The runner up candidate was public infrastructure.
Relevant datasets and sources are the next targets. They are assessed further in terms of data quality and assigned to related challenges. The following step was to pre-process acquired data prior to analysis. Qualified foundation data must also fulfill the requirements set by chosen challenges while additional data were picked based on compatibility with starting data. Visualisation is produced from mentioned competent data to supplement understanding and make it easier to gain insights while being useful for demonstration in the solutionโs platform.
The solution for the challenges was shortlisted depending on its ability to fulfil the requirements which in this case was an educational website on water catered for everyone with relevant features and functions.

Description of Use Since our team focus is on water, the Melbourne monthly rainfall data is very useful for the analysis of how the trends in water have changed over the years. Here Melbourne regional office has collected data for the past 160 years in month wise. This makes very useful for the analysis and the trend line showed there will be changes in rainfall in upcoming years. Probably it would reduce, these are derived using Tableau.
Description of Use This data set is used for 5 challenges: Optimize energy and water resource planning, Waterwise, Water - From source to tap, Innovative ways to be efficient with water, Improving the customer experience of government services challange. It is used to analyze the trend of water consumption for the past 10 years.

Description of Use Used to get an insight into the possible approaches that may boost the level of involvement in the environmental cause event. The knowledge is used as an enabler for solution website's future water-related campaigns. The high percentage of environmentally concerned people mirrors the findings of Encycle data.
Description of Use Used to find the population % of people with disabilities for males and females in Australia. A significant % would dictate the need for inclusivity, which is applied on solution website to serve a wider audience.
Description of Use This data is used for Plastic Free July challenge. It is used to confirm the level of support for environmental concern despite low participation rate, which aligns with Environmental Awareness & Action data.
Description of Use Used to show water management areas in solution website interactive water map alongside reserves and storages of NSW and VIC.
Description of Use Since we are interested in focusing on educating disability students we picked with the dataset and shared our views on how disability is been ignored from this competitive world.
Description of Use This dataset is used to showcase how much water was available in Melbourne for a period of 75 years and also a trend line generated which shows a decreasing level. Since our analysis is based on water, this dataset gives us a special interest in how the storage process took place in Melbourne to fulfil a large number of people present in the city. The trend has been derived using Tableau and its very useful to relate with the rainfall data
